Hi, let me introduce myself the way I move through life and this fitness journey: extremely awkwardly albeit enthusiastic. First off I’d like to thank you for taking the time to even read this. Second of all as the title gives away, I’m Shannon. I’m currently 19 years old, soon to be 20 and have been living in Ghent since September.
My story starts basically the same as half of our population: I hated physical education until last year. I started attending university and it did not go that well. As a resort, a way to vent, I started walking my dog more often. I love walking around at dusk and admiring the sunset. I wanted to run, but my chihuahua wasn’t a fan so I begged my mother to let me do the one thing we both failed at the previous year: fitness.
Being someone who gets bored with things easily I wanted to set a goal for myself. Especially after having been through some personal struggles, I wanted to start living healthier. That included taking care of my body and actually working actively on said body. Now I didn’t start off quite as well as expected. After a few months of actually struggling even more I decided: no more. So me and Julie teamed up to – and this is going to sound hella cliché – become the best versions of ourselves.
I found motivation in seeing others thrive online. And at a certain point we all get jealous and start wanting to have these bodies which is ridiculous, but why not at least try? Exercise is good and of course I needed a way to stay focused. This helps me to unwind after a stressful day of classes, studying and finishing tasks to meet deadlines.
Personally I live for these moments of dutsen (which is a word we use to explain how someone is awkwardly accomplishing some kind of task, as aforementioned: I’m awkward!). With this blog I hope to track my progress and set realistic goals for both myself and hopefully others. May it inspire you, may it humour you, may it motivate you.
xoxo
Shannon
